Valentine's Day Tidbit

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and a large portion of the country scrambled to their local grocery and Hallmark store for the perfect card that would express sentiments near and dear to their loved-ones heart. What accompanied that card? Was it jewelry? Was it flowers? Was it chocolate?

Knee deep in cookies, I looked around and found myself ecstatic that my usual clientele chose to forego the gift box and allow me to provide desserts on silver platters, literally. Once a heart-shaped box did the trick, complete with heart shaped baked goodies (still preferred by all ages, myself included) and an enclosure card addressed to the “Sweetest Woman Around”. This year, it was different, and I was proud to embrace the change.

Many skeptics look at Valentine’s Day as a Hallmark holiday, and some not a holiday at all. Some say, “Why do we need a day to remember our loved ones, and why can’t we do it on any other day just as easily?” My answer to that is simple: Life gets away from us.

We often take each other for granted, often overlook the little things that make one another special and the sacrifices that go along with day-to-day living. Relationships are often forgotten between daily errands, dinner time, the long work day and the never-ending obligatory circumstances of life. Unfortunately, laughter doesn’t happen often enough and room to breathe is put aside until another time. Why not take a day to remember and pay tribute to the person that stood by your side through all of it?

Being served life on a silver platter doesn’t happen too often. That’s why I was so pleased to break out the best for my customers and serve them dessert. Getting any ideas? Give your loved one no matter what time of year something sweet on something fancy and think outside the box.
